Judith Benderson exhibits in the Washington, DC area, most recently at American University’s Katzen Arts Center in both the AU Museum and the Katzen Rotunda, at DC Arts Center, and at BlackRock Center for the Arts, and previously participated in public art projects including DC Party Animals and Color Field Remix. She was the Cultural Property Law Enforcement Coordinator at the Justice Department with responsibility in area of law enforcement for art theft and artifact smuggling, as well as doing appraisals for the FBI Art Theft Program. Benderson has a JD from American University, a BA and an MFA from George Washington University, and is certified in fine and decorative arts appraisal. She organized the 2018 Washington Women’s Arts Center (WWAC) retrospective, Latitude, at the American University Museum. In the 1970s and 80s, Benderson was a board member and Managing Director of WWAC. In 1986 she was a founding board member of Rockville Arts Place, now VisArts, and later served as co-President.

Judith Benderson, Taina Litwak, and Barbara Frank joined the exhibition's curator, Francoise Yohalem for a panel discussion that looked back at the history of the Washington Women's Arts Center and its influence on the Washington art scene that is still felt today.

Shaw Public Library hosted Part 3 of "Space Was the Place," a collaboration between the National Gallery of Art and the DC  Public Library  regarding histories of defunct arts spaces in DC, featuring the Washington Women's Art Center.
Speakers include Ray Barker, Judith Benderson & Lucy Blankstein.

Former Managing Director Judith Benderson reflected on her time at the Washington Women's Arts Center. She discussed recent efforts to include the organization's history as a part of the legacy of DC artists in American University's summer 2018 exhibition Latitude: The Washington Women's Arts Center 1975-1987.

This program is part of the DC Mondays at the Museum series organized in cooperation with the Albert H. Small Center for National Capital Area Studies.
